Andrew Bean is a multidisciplinary geoscientist with professional experience in industry and federal government. Academically, he earned his B.S. in Geology and B.A. in Geography concurrently at West Virginia University in 2016. He is presently pursuing an M.S. in Geology with a research focus in Rock Physics. Advised by Dr. Camelia Knapp, Bean is conducting comprehensive experimental rock physics analyses on prospective seal and reservoir intervals to assess suitability for geologic storage of CO2 in the offshore southeastern United States. Professionally, Bean interned as a geotechnical consultant in 2014. From 2015 – 2017, Bean worked as a Research Geologist at the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) as a participant in the Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship (MLEF) and Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) fellowships. Some of his co-published research projects include “Estimating Carbon Storage Resources in Offshore Geologic Environments” and the 2019 Carnegie Science Award-winning “Development of an Open Global Oil and Gas Infrastructure Inventory and Geodatabase”. During 2018, Bean interned as an exploration/development geophysicist at NextEra Energy. In 2019, he looks forward to a summer internship at ConocoPhillips. In his spare time, Bean enjoys skiing, caving, hiking, and traveling.
